Who lives longer: celebrities or me?

The ScienceFact Celebrity Check
Side by side with celebrities ©sonares

The ScienceFact Celebrity Check raises the exciting question of how our life expectancy compares to that of celebrities. Young people in particular have the opportunity to compare their expected lifespan with that of stars such as Jennifer Lawrence or Leonardo DiCaprio. This seemingly light-hearted consideration of our own lifespan adds a light-hearted touch to an otherwise serious topic such as death and makes using the celebrity check an entertaining experience.

Whether celebrity or regular citizen - everyone wants to live a long and healthy life

Various factors can have a significant influence on lifespan. A healthy lifestyle, in which physical activity, the right approach to stress, a balanced diet and the avoidance of harmful substances play a major role, can have a positive effect on the quality and expectation of life. In particular, comparing our own expected lifespan with the length of a celebrity's life can help us to take a closer look at how these personalities organise their everyday lives. This aspect not only opens up the opportunity for self-reflection regarding our personal lifestyle, but also allows us to take a closer look at the lives (and everyday habits) of those we admire and follow on social media. In this context, it also shows that life expectancy depends less on the brilliance of the spotlight than on the individual decisions that are made in silence.

Scientific background

Like the life expectancy calculator, the ScienceFact was developed by Dr Hannes Guhl, a physicist and mathematician, who analysed 40 studies over a three-year period and created a precise calculation model for calculating life expectancy. His work was scientifically supported by Prof Dr Karl Michael Ortmann, who holds the professorship for mathematics at BTH and checked the resulting algorithm down to the smallest detail. BHT (Berlin University of Applied Sciences) is a renowned state university in Berlin and shapes the educational and research environment in Germany with around 70 degree programmes in eight departments and a dedicated teaching staff of 290 professors. If you are looking for innovative, applicable and practical degree programmes and interdisciplinary research activities, BTH is the right place for you.

What are ScienceFacts

There are not yet as many studies in the world of science as there are stars in the sky, but the difference is probably marginal. Research is being carried out in all kinds of areas, on a wide variety of topics - which is great and deserves thunderous applause - and yet, unless a study is making waves in the media due to its explosive nature or you actively and purposefully go looking for it, you rarely hear about it in your everyday life.

Yet so many of these studies reveal important findings that could have a direct, immediate impact on all our lives - if only they were better known! Science should be accessible and tangible for everyone: only then can it realise its true potential and fulfil the promise that is no more and no less one of the cornerstones of its raison d'être: to change people's lives for the better by gaining knowledge and understanding.

And because we at sonares no longer wanted to accept this what-if state of affairs, we have created revolutionary tools that open the doors of science to everyone like a master key: sonares ScienceFacts.

How scientists can use ScienceFacts

Thanks to ScienceFacts, findings from studies, which are often preceded by years of research and into which a great deal of passion and hard work has been poured, reach many people in their everyday lives. The studies become even better known and reach a much wider audience, not just a purely academic one. All of a sudden, science is entering the centre of lively life and helping people to make decisions, pointing out correlations and ideally even motivating them to change their way of life. With the help of ScienceFacts, scientists can not only significantly increase the awareness of their studies - they can also conduct new studies by using ScienceFacts to collect data and then publish the results as a completely new ScienceFact on the websites of well-known publishers.

How publishers can use ScienceFacts

With ScienceFacts, publishers gain access to a new generation of interactive content that they can use to enrich their website with scientific facts and thus create real added value for visitors. Customised, scientific content - we have the right ScienceFacts for every website - makes sites more engaging, which attracts more visitors and leads to longer dwell times on the site. In addition, user analytics allows the content displayed on the page to be customised to the interests of the page visitors. This not only improves the user experience, but also has a positive effect on the SEO ranking. In short, ScienceFacts is a comprehensive way for publishers to optimise their website by communicating scientific findings.

sonares: bridge between science and everyday life

We are a team of busy science enthusiasts who have dedicated themselves to the task of making scientific findings tangible and understandable for people who do not work in the field of science. We want to bring research into the centre of society and translate the academic jargon of studies into everyday language so that as many people as possible can benefit from it. For each of our ScienceFacts, our scientific staff - in collaboration with universities, research institutes and other scientific institutions - develop precise calculation models that break down the complex results of scientific studies into clear and easily understandable terms at a personal level. We only use verified studies that have been compiled in accordance with scientific standards by independent and credible sources and published publicly.
